Israeli strikes resume after brief lull - Yahoo! News

Israeli strikes resume after brief lull - Yahoo! News: "JERUSALEM - Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Monday, hours after agreeing to temporarily halt raids while investigating a bombing that killed nearly 60 Lebanese civilians, mostly women and children seeking shelter.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert agreed to a 48-hour halt in the airstrikes beginning at 2 a.m. Monday while the military concludes its inquiry into the attack on the south Lebanese village of Qana.

But
Israel left open the option it might hit targets to stop imminent attacks or if the military completed its inquiry within 48 hours."

Iranian leader calls Chavez a 'trench mate' - Yahoo! News: "TEHRAN, Iran - The presidents of
Iran and Venezuela, leading U.S. critics, pledged Saturday to support one another in disputes with Washington, with the Iranian calling Hugo Chavez 'a brother and trench mate.'

As Chavez arrived for a two-day visit. Iran faced renewed international criticism for its nuclear program and for backing Hezbollah guerrillas in its war with
Israel.

The five permanent members of the
U.N. Security Council on Friday reached a deal on a resolution that would give Iran until the end of August to suspend uranium enrichment or face the threat of economic and diplomatic sanctions. Iranian state radio said Saturday the government would reject the proposed resolution.

Chavez pledged that his country would 'stay by Iran at any time and under any condition.'"

Rice Cancels Trip to Beirut After Airstrike

Rice Cancels Trip to Beirut After Airstrike: "JERUSALEM, July 30 -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was forced to cancel a trip to Beirut Sunday after an Israeli airstrike killed more than 50 people, mostly women and children, in the southern Lebanese town of Qana in the bloodiest attack since the hostilities began between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militia. But she did not call for an immediate ceasefire.

At a hastily called news conference, Rice said she was 'deeply saddened' by the 'terrible loss of life' and insisted the United States was working harder than any party to try to achieve a ceasefire."

US rushing arms to Israel amid Lebanon bombings: official

by Dmitry Zaks

WASHINGTON (AFP) -The United States is expediting an arms shipment of precision bombs to Israel from an arms deal struck last year amid the Jewish state's ongoing assault on Lebanon, a US official said.

A decision to rush the delivery of the weapons following an Israeli request was made around the time Israel began bombing Lebanon by air and sea on July 12 following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by the Hezbollah militia, the official said.

"It's part of an arms sale that was made in 2005," the official told AFP condition of anonymity.

The official said the shipment "has either been made or is in the process of being delivered" but refused to specify whether it was being delivered by land or by sea.

Last year's arms deal allows Israel -- which agreed to purchase about one billion dollars in US military equipment last year, according to a congressional report -- to tap into the package depending on need.

It was not immediately clear if Israel requested the new shipments following the start of the Lebanon campaign or while it was still in the peak of an air and ground offensive in the Palestinian
Gaza Strip on its southern border.

The US official told AFP the shipment was negotiated by Israeli officials with the State Department and other agencies that have also refused to make public comment, highlighting the sensitivity of the decision.

"We do not, under a law, disclose sensitive information about foreign military sales," a
Pentagon spokesman said.

"Disclosure of when weapons were shipped or if they were shipped ... gets into the order of battle of the country to which they were being sold," the Pentagon spokesman said.

A State Department official said "we are not making any comment on this at all". The White House referred questions to the Pentagon and State Department.

The story was first reported by The New York Times. A US official told AFP the paper received confirmation of the rushed shipment on Friday.

The Times said the decision to expedite weapons was made with relatively little debate within the administration of
President George W. Bush.

But it noted the disclosure threatened to anger Arab governments and others because of the appearance that the United States is actively aiding the Israeli bombing campaign in a way that could be compared to
Iran's efforts to arm and resupply Hezbollah.

Israel's request for rush delivery of the satellite- and laser-guided bombs was described as unusual by some military officers and as an indication that Israel still had a long list of targets in Lebanon to strike, The New York Times noted.

The US official refused to describe in detail the size and contents of the shipment but confirmed that they included precision guided bombs.

An arms-sale package approved last year authorizes Israel to purchase from the United States as many as 100 GBU-28s, which are 5,000-pound (2,268-kilogram) laser-guided bombs intended to destroy concrete bunkers.

Israel has already used huge bombs to attempt to destroy the bunker of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah without succeeding to eliminate the Shiite militia chief.

The package also provides for satellite-guided munitions, The New York Times said.

One US official said normal procedures usually do not include rushing deliveries within days of a request. That was done because Israel is a close ally in the midst of hostilities, the official told the Times.

The Game

Jordan Times (Opinion Section)

Jordan Times (Opinion Section): "Editorial:
How some sleep easy

The US Senate passed a resolution condemning Hizbollah, Syria and Iran, and expressing support for Israel’s murder of civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. (Presumably the wording will be slightly different).

The resolution had been postponed because of some senators’ insistence on inserting a clause expressing “sympathy” with civilian casualties.

Well, that’s alright then. The US has once again proved to be a country in which the highest principles of human values are protected and safeguarded, a paragon of justice and a model for the rest of the world to follow.

Unless, of course, you happen to be Arab, Muslim or unfortunate enough to be caught up in the Israeli army’s unrestrained acts of naked brutality. Because, according to the US, Israel acts only in self-defence, whether it is killing children and families in Lebanon or in Gaza, or bombing airports, power plants, roads, bridges, levelling villages and similarly targeting other “threats to its national security.”

There can only be one explanation. Racism. For while it might be expected that the US would denounce Hizbollah for conducting a cross-border raid that ended in the capture of two Israeli soldiers provoking an inevitable response, it cannot possibly be accepted that when that response is as indiscriminate, bloody and murderous as it is, no voices of criticism are heard from official circles in the US.

Indeed, pro-Israel American groups are planning demonstrations in major cities in the US in support of the Israeli campaign of bloodshed. What, one wonders, will be written on their placards. Kill more Arabs?

And why bother? When official support for anything Israel does is so strong that the US president is overheard swearing at the head of state of a third party, not one of the principal parties involved, pro-Israel lobbies in America ought to rest at ease in their beds.

Only dead Israelis count in America. Dead"

World News Article | Reuters.co.uk: "GENEVA (Reuters) - The scale of killing and maiming of civilians in Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian territory of Gaza could constitute war crimes, the United Nations human rights chief said on Wednesday.

U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said international humanitarian law was clear on the need to protect non-combatants in any conflict. 'This obligation is also expressed in international criminal law, which defines war crimes and crimes against humanity,' she said.

'The scale of the killings in the region, and their predictability, could engage the personal criminal responsibility of those involved, particularly those in a position of command and control,' she said, without directly accusing anyone.

In a statement, Arbour expressed 'grave concern over the continued killing and maiming of civilians in Lebanon, Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory'."

Question

What difference does it make if Hezbullah's rockets are made/supplied by Iran when Israel's rockets are probably made/supplied by the United States of America?

What's the point? Blood on Iran's hands? Blood on our (USA) hands?

Why is everything so one-sided? Is one side always innocent and the other side always guilty?

I guess it depends on whose version of the story gets told.

Like attracts like and other random thoughts

They often say opposites attract. Maybe they do, but I see time and time again that Like attracts like. I've heard many times that we attract that which we are. We often say, "nah...no way" because we only seeing the negative in a person or situation. If we look at other angles, other sides, other possibilities and other manifestations of the situation or thing, maybe we will find that we are more alike that not alike.
~~~~
As I approach the impending birth of my first child, what I think...the thoughts I hold have never been more important. I believe in an infinite wisdom and power. How can...why would I cancel out that belief in an infinite power and wisdom with something called a labor "pain"? Perception colors experience. It dictates our experience...it sets up the outcomes. The words I use to describe what will be happening to my body as my baby is birthed with alter my experience because each word has an energy and an energetic impression.
During this time many...pregnancy... many who have experienced it try to tell you how it's gonna be or what to expect. I've been creating my own experience. (I'm pleased to say.) I have to because I believe in an infinite wisdom and power.
I am pleased to have talked to so many elders who had no choice but to birth their children naturally. Now, we have choices. We can decide to feel pain or not feel pain during the experience of birth. I am planning to birth my first child naturally. I am going to be flexible because the birth of my child is something to some extent that I don't control. My baby's health and wellbeing is most important. I won't be stuck on what I want just to say that I did this or did that if my baby's health is compromised in any way. However, I will be a full participant in the natural process of birthing my first child. I want to make whatever decisions I can make during the whole process.
We are determined to make it a "beautifull" experience absent of fear (False Education Accepted as Reality). I feel like I'm in training now... And I know that I've been in spiritual training for a long time. I think about the movies I've seen where the fighter goes off to train before the big fight. That is where I will be in a few weeks... in training, preparing to birth my child.
We stay faithfull! We expect the best, most delightfull welcoming for our child. We know we can do this like so many other ancient warrior women who have come before me. God is with us!
We are!
