Racial divisions -The Independent
The Independent: "Hurricane Katrina did more than rupture one of America’s most famous and historic cities. It awoke the conscious of all Americans when New Orleans residents – two-thirds of whom are black – were left waiting for days for food, water and a taste of hope from the local, state and federal governments.
Katrina, one of the worst and most costly natural disasters in this country’s history, has stirred the political and social pot and cooked up a serving of the blame game.
The result, or the recipe, has a bitter taste. And not just for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, former FEMA director Michael Brown or President Bush, but for the entire country, says the Rev. Beverly Lewis, interim president and chief executive officer for the Massillon Urban League."
