Where are our leaders?
Many in the African American community are wondering, where are our leaders (esp. black leaders) and why aren't they speaking up and out about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath? I say, don't assume that they aren't saying or doing anything when you don't see them in the media. I also say don't simply ask the question in your head or on the information superhighway, call them and ask them, where are you? What are you doing? Talk to them, share with them. Most have websites that have contact information on them.
I also say, go look in the mirror! You're looking at him or her. We can no longer look to others solely for what we can also do for ourselves. Lead! We need you today. We can't wait for anyone to say what we can say ourselves. Take charge, coordinate an activity with someone else. Create and handout flyers. Wear a t-shirt to the mall that you designed. Get your message out to the people. One person can make a difference. But we have to do something instead of play Monday morning quarterback.
Be vocal, be active however you can. We need ALL of our voices and hands to do the work!
