Bush, U.S. Congress Will Probe Hurricane Response -Bloomberg.com: U.S.

Bloomberg.com: U.S.: "Separately, Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine, chairwoman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis said their panels will probe the government's response to the storm.

Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, the Senate committee's senior Democrat, said the government ``did not respond to Hurricane Katrina as we expected and needed it to.''

Davis, in a statement, said that while there were problems with various aspects of the disaster response, lawmakers shouldn't ``prematurely paint the picture that these are solely, or even primarily, federal government responsibilities.''

``We'll do it by the book, and let the chips fall where they may,'' he said."
