Russia’s Putin to Meet Heads of U.S. Oil Companies Exxon, Chevron, Conoco - MONEY - MOSNEWS.COM: "This week Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will meet executives from the top three U.S. oil firms, ExxonMobil, ChevronTexaco and ConocoPhillips, as these companies look to boost business in Russia.
Russian news agencies quoted Kremlin sources as saying that the meeting will take place during Putin’s visit to New York for the United Nations’ summit, scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
All three U.S. firms are bidding to participate in the development of the huge Barents Sea Shtokman gas field, a license to which is held by Russia’s natural gas monopoly Gazprom. The reserves at the field are such that the companies would be able to deliver significant volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the United States for half a century. Gazprom promised that on Friday, Sept. 16, it will disclose a short-list of five bidders for Shtokman out of nine contenders, which also include firms from Norway and Japan.
