Words, Ideals, ...and Ultimately ones Destiny
As I hear and see about what's happening in the world, I can't help but think about principles, ideas, and definitions that are used to describe what's happening. Language, words...they are so important. They convey so much more than the obvious. They carry with them so much. They carry a people's cultural. They carry an ideology. They carry intent. Surface knowledge of a thing is no longer acceptable. In politics, we can't afford to take anything at face value anymore.
I want to understand certain words a little better. Especially words used by the West to describe the conflict in the Middle East. It's so important to control your minds. It's so important to understand that whoever writes the story, controls the media outlet determines what is conveyed. Vagueness and ambiguity never played such important roles.
My word list, which I will be adding to later, has to begin with...
How in the hell are you going to invade a country like Iraq and say you are going to spread Democracy? How do you reject what/who the people "democratically" elect in Palastine (Hamas) and refuse to acknowledge them? What happened to Democracy that the US government professed? They shit on it! What does it, Democracy, mean now? Something twisted. It's no longer an ideal that can be taken for what it used to mean when a couple of hundred years ago in the United States.
Vladimir Putin told Bush he wasn't interested in the "Iraq-style" of Democracy. Who the hell would want that? Do we even have a Democracy in the United States? On paper, I guess. The administration speaks of monies and support that will be available to a those seeking to bring Democracy to Cuba once Fidel is no longer in power. They have free healthcare and education in Cuba. What do we have in our Democracy?
I am beginning to believe that Democracy in the United States means CAPITALISM. Allow big business to come in to your country and make you a slave to your material wants and desires. Let me get rich off of you. Let me suck the life, the soul out of you by making you worship things that don't mean anything.
