Jesse Jackson in Memphis, Campaigning for Hurricane Victims
Jesse Jackson in Memphis, Campaigning for Hurricane Victims: "MEMPHIS- The Rev. Jesse Jackson is in Memphis, fighting for sufficient relief aid for people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
The president of the Rainbow Push Coalition flew into Memphis Sunday night after speaking to a crowd in Jackson, Mississippi. The long time civil rights activist is focusing his attention on FEMA trucks, which are sitting idle outside Memphis's old Army Defense Depot off Airways Road.
The trucks arrived over the weekend. Officials said several drivers have been picking up ice and water in the Midwest and Southeast to transport to hurricane victims in the Gulf. But drivers said for some reason, they have been directed back to Memphis with no official drop off point.
Jackson said that he is in Memphis to figure out why victims are not receiving the help they deserve.
Truck drivers said t he government is paying upwards of $900 a day for truckers to carry water and ice supplies."
