Deja Vu For Many African American?

Why has the New Orleans disaster emotionally affected the African American community the way that it has? On so many levels this is reminiscent of the Middle Passage, slavery...families being ripped apart, children, husbands and wives were lost or separated from each other. What about the unique culture of New Orleans? Who...How will it be preserved with its citizens dispersed throughout the United States? When will they be allowed to return? What will happen to their property rights? Will the "promise" of a better future deter many from wanting to go back to substandard, poor living conditions?

Why are African Americans who were not direct victims of Hurricane Katrina hurting so bad right now? Is our collective unconscious (and conscious) becoming really real for us?
